The Art of Tutoring
A practical “how-to” for training tutors to have an artful and attractive method. This session will provide numerous handouts and strategies to take back to your home campus and implement immediately. Presented by two seasoned professionals who like to spice up their tutor training.

3CSN’s Learning Assistance Project: A Statewide Community of Practice
The coordinators for the Learning Assistance Project (LAP), a community of practice for learning assistance (e.g., tutoring and supplemental instruction) within the California Community College system, will present observations from a 2015 statewide survey on learning assistance. Presenters will also discuss ways to get involved with LAP for ongoing professional learning, tutor training, and increasingthe visibility and integration of learning assistance on campus as a fundamental aspect of student success. The session will be interactive, with opportunity for discussion and network building. LAP is supported by the California Community Colleges’ Success Network (3CSN) to promote student success through practitioner-driven professional learning.

Striking Gold with Peer-Embedded Tutoring: Traditions and New Directions at Santa
Barbara City College
Santa Barbara City College has a ten-year history of transforming and sustaining course-embedded tutoring. This session explores the rich history of the Gateway to Success program and its core principle: “faculty driven, faculty governed.” The program will serve as a case study for faculty initiatives that sustain a student-focused pedagogy. The session will meet a broad interest for schools and programs who have peer-embedded programs, and who are designing such programs across the disciplines. What common pedagogies, designs, and outcomes can create and sustain quality? Come and learn.
