Humanizing Tutoring and Learning Assistance: Dignity, Justice, Empowerment
Humanizing Tutoring and Learning Assistance draws on our traditions of creating community wealth and belongingness in supporting students, in tutoring centers and in embedded tutoring. In a post COVID world, we are invited to create humanizing approaches online in new and innovative ways. Our conference themes and strands are grounded in this legacy and looks forward to continuing this work online.
Humanizing is when we share ourselves, acknowledge our names, and honor the various identities within each other. Tutoring centers work best when we are personal, authentic, inclusive, caring, and welcoming. Learning assistance includes sharing each other’s stories and goals. We make our interactions relevant and acknowledge the diverse ways we are fully present with each other.
